It is easy to use the Savings Catcher phone app.

December 7, 2017
by Doug Martin, Opportunity Muse

Walmart has to stay competitive, so they built an easy-to-use phone app that lets shoppers save money on regular-priced items. Savings Catcher is a price-matching application.

While I love Savings Catcher because it is so easy and convenient to use, there are some drawbacks. Really, it is not the app’s fault, but it is Walmart’s policies that I find fault with. On Savings Catcher, price matching on healthy produce items is not available.

However, price matching is available on all the brand name junk foods that we all love, but should eat in moderation. Their policy promotes unhealthy eating habits. That’s a shame.

However, that doesn’t keep me from using Savings Catcher and reaping the benefits.

We all face on-the-job changes from new technology and the always-evolving economic cycle. One month we might be in a booming economy, and six months later we find ourselves out of a job and in a recession. That is why we must all continue to learn new skills.

Ray Dalio’s book, Principles, and my review.

November 8, 2017
by Doug Martin, Opportunity Muse

As I have read Principles, I used a pen to mark relevant points. This book has become a vital reference tool for success.

Write down your own principles — that is what successful people do. Unfortunately for me, I have never put any of my dreams or goals in written form. When our goals are in writing, they become more definite. Then, don’t forget about the steps you will take to reach your goals. Write those down, too.

My negative inner voice was a bully, but is now my servant.

October 23, 2017
by Doug Martin, Opportunity Muse

My negative inner voice was rude, crude, and a downright bully. Now, however, I have trained my inner voice to be my positive servant.

Despite my recently-found control over my negative inner thoughts and negative self-talk, I still struggle. Each day, an internal struggle ensues. Usually, I win and turn my negativity into a positive force.

Help Hurricane Harvey flooding victims.

August 28, 2017
by Doug Martin, Opportunity Muse

Most of us aren’t able to help the Hurricane Harvey flooding victims in person. Still, we can make donations to reputable charities who have the experience and personnel who are ready to help today.

In my experience, giving is a part of healthy growth. Sometimes, we just have to stop what we’re doing and help out our fellow brothers and sisters in need. It doesn’t matter what their religion is, or political persuasion, or ethnicity. If people need help, we are obligated to step up and do the right thing.
