Help Hurricane Harvey flooding victims.

by Doug Martin, Opportunity Muse

Today, August 28, 2017, the people in the Texas Gulf Coast region are dealing with flooding and wind damage from Hurricane Harvey. This is our opportunity to pay it forward and lend a helping hand.

How could a loving god allow this disaster to happen? I don’t know, and I don’t understand. But, now’s not the time to ask “why?”. Now’s the time to pay it forward to help our fellow human beings.

As members of the human race, we are obligated to lend a hand. Sure, there will be other natural disasters, but Harvey’s torrential rainfall and flooding is happening this very minute.

Right now, the National Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are in southern Texas and the metro Houston area. Both agencies are experienced in providing help and resources to people in need. On the FEMA website, it’s easy to apply online for assistance, and then check your status.

Check out this link for charities that are helping the Hurricane Harvey flooding victims right now. They are providing food, essential medicine, transportation, and emotional comfort.

If you decide to give, be sure your charity is reputable. Check a charity’s integrity out on Charity Navigator. On Charity Navigator, you can see how much of your donation will actually go to helping people.

Also, if people are asking for help on a crowdfunding website, be sure you know them and that they have a legitimate need. Unfortunately, there are dishonest people who would misrepresent themselves and divert money away from people who desperately need your help.
